Spring has finally sprung at Milesian Manor!
29th March 2018
Spring has finally arrived and what better way to celebrate than getting the local lambs to pay our residents a visit. Everyone had the opportunity to spend time petting and cuddling the lambs.
The residents were so comfortable interacting with the lambs – they didn’t want them to leave! A lot of our residents grew up on a farm so the lamb visit brought back some great memories of their childhood.
Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) has been linked with the improvement of quality of life for dementia patients and numerous studies have shown that visits from animals can instantly lift the moods of residents. We base our activities on the enhancing benefits they will have on our residents and take lots of time and consideration in planning activity days. The lamb visit was such a hit and we will certainly have more innovative and enhancing therapy activities across our Homes.
Activities Therapist Theresa McGrogan said, “We loved seeing our residents faces fill with joy when the lambs came in. The Animal Assisted Therapy was immensely beneficial for our residents but also for us as team members in getting to see our residents express so much joy in engaging with the young lambs”
